The risk manager will be responsible for the development and implementation of the Client’s risk-management system (RMS). The RMS comprises strategies, processes and reporting procedures necessary to identify, measure, monitor, manage and report all risks which the undertaking could be exposed.Key Responsibilities:
The candidate should:
- Ensure that emerging risks are identified, and appropriately treated
- Report and monitor on adherence to risk limits and risk tolerances
- Ensure ongoing compliance with policies, consistent with approved frequencies
- Review all relevant policy and procedure documentation, and in consultation with senior management, continuously enhance and improve the risk management system
- Attend and support the business at all relevant committees; in particular risk, pricing and reserving
- Review, enhance and maintain the risk register, including risks, controls and mitigants
- Liaise with senior management to assist in their risk self-assessments, while playing a pro-active, challenging and enabling role during these engagements
- Report and monitor on adherence to risk limits and risk tolerances
- Report and monitor on near miss/ loss events
- Identify, develop and implement risk management best practices
The Person:
The candidate should ideally have:
- Qualification in insurance or accountancy
- (For a candidate with an insurance qualification, a strong numerical ability is desired; similarly, if the qualification is accountancy, a strong insurance background is desirable.)
- Knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley is desirable, but not necessary
- A good working knowledge of Solvency II regulations is an advantage; similarly, a thorough knowledge of other related governance obligations for insurance companies is strongly desirable
- The candidate should be very computer literate, with particular proficiency in Microsoft Office products
The client requires an independent thinker, who is capable of identifying the major risks facing the company, and challenging senior management on their self-assessments. Therefore, strong interpersonal and communication skills are critical, together with an ability to engage effectively with all stakeholders across the business. The client requires a confident self-starter, with strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
