Summary

Our Client is a professional reinsurance company, with ambitious expansion plans, providing a first class service to its clients. They offer a global multi-class approach through efficient reinsurance structuring, active pricing and proactive claims handling. As a start-up company, our Client is developing its team. They are seeking a Reserving Actuary, who will be a highly motivated individual, comfortable in a changing environment, educated to university degree level (or equivalent), preferably in Actuarial Science or a related field. The candidate must possess excellent teamwork skills, be able to participate actively on projects and have excellent presentation skills including the ability to effectively communicate technical details.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development of the Reserving Policy, Philosophy and Process and recommendation of such to the Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for the computation, analysis and recommendation of the Irish GAAP reserves for the Company at each quarter.
  • Provide support to the Finance Function to ensure the timely completion of financial statements and management accounts.
  • Responsible for the monitoring of any external events which have the potential to have an impact on the reserving of the Company.
  • Responsible for the analysis and reporting of key developments in reserving including but not limited to drivers of the reserve movements, large loss experience, and actual vs expected analysis.
  • Will work in liaison with the key areas of the Company including Head of Actuarial Function, Claims Function, Pricing Function, Finance Function to ensure the reserving philosophy is inherent in the business model of the Company.
  • Contribute to the Data Quality standards within the reserving process and in line with the Data Quality Policy for Solvency II.
  • This role reports to the Chief Operating Officer

The Person:

  • 5 plus years experience in reserving with reinsurance excess of loss reserving a key advantage.
  • Some experience in reinsurance pricing
  • Experience in UK motor reserving is preferable.
  • Strong IT skills (MS Office, VBA, Matlab or other programming languages).
  • Ability to challenge and enhance existing reserving methodologies.
  • Knowledge of reserving methodologies and techniques across European and other jurisdictions.
  • Fluency in English is required and a second European language is a distinct advantage.
  • High attention to detail, data scepticism and accuracy with proven report writing skills.
  • Solution oriented with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, working as part of a team with minimal supervision.
  • Proven ability to learn and adapt to change quickly and easily and to motivate others to do likewise.
  • Ability to work under pressure, managing time effectively, prioritisation of tasks, targets and deadlines.
  • A passion for continuous improvement / driving change in a multi-cultural, multi-lingual, international environment and committed to continued learning and development.
